San Francisco Scenes
This leaflet is the third in our "miniatures" series that depict the many variations in Victorian architectural styles. The Victorians in this leaflet are representative of those built in San Francisco from the late 1860s through the 1890s. The flat-front Italianates of the 1860s gave way to the slanted-bay Italianates of the 1870s and the rectangular bays of "San Francisco Sticks" of the 1880s. The Queen Anne style added gabled roofs, corner towers, and leaded and colored glass windows to this already rich mixture of building decoration.
